Consistency is massively important during a power exchange scene, there can't be safety in letting out deep emotions for the sub unless she knows the cage won't budge. She needs to know the top isn't afraid of her true, unfiltered expression.
In my personal view, let's separate the feelings of 'Empathy' and 'Sympathy' and what their uses are for a top during these kinds of slave training sessions.
Empathy is needed by the top to shape the different ebbs and flows of the sub, to know exactly what she needs (and when) to reach deeper; to mirror and ultimately experience her catharsis and ego death.
Sympathy, however, rarely has a place. It is unhelpful to the sub, as it is the budging of his cage, the faltering of his gaze. She has submitted to him to be free of the coddling and belittling she encounters daily from the world. She needs something firm; be it a hand, a ruleset or a dick.
The beeping sounds coming off-frame during the slave training segments represents that cold, uncaring, faceless reality. Signalling according to some opaque system. What does it mean? The slave doesn't know. All that matters is the jolt of fear and excitement going through her body when it appears.
